Shelter Advocate
WCHS is looking for a full/ part time Shelter Advocate(s). We have an immediate need for new Shelter Advocates! We have full and part time positions available.
Role and Responsibilities
- To work in concert with the Shelter Manager and the WCHS Board of Directors in order to fulfill the mission of the organization and provide for the welfare and care of animals in our charge.
- Ensure the safety of the staff, animals and any guests that may be visiting WCHS.
- To assist with the management of the daily operations of the WCHS animal shelter/animal adoption facility, to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently in accordance with established procedures, policies, city ordinances, state & federal laws & regulations.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cleaning, animal care, and adoptions.
- Must ensure facility is maintained in a sanitary and safe fashion to protect the health of the animals, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Must be 18 years or older. Must also have a clean driving record as employee may be responsible for driving the shelter vehicle. Previous shelter experience or animal care/handling experience is preferred.
Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and certain weekday mornings.

Preferred Skills
A working knowledge of vaccine protocols, proper animal handling skills, common disease symptoms and knowledge of animal behavior and training. Experience with implanting microchips. Knowledge and experience with general canine and breed specific behaviors, as well as positive/force-free methods of animal training.
