If you found a cat...
Cats are allowed to roam freely in Whitman County. Stray, healthy cats will not be taken by animal control to WCHS unless the cat is injured and the owner is unknown.
If the cat is injured or sick, or you find a kitten, please call your local police department to create a report, and then call WCHS!

- Contact WCHS at 509-332-3422 to file a Found Report. We will compare this report with our lost reports. Sometimes we can connect you with the owner without having to bring the animal in to the shelter.
- Bring the cat to WCHS or to a veterinary clinic to have it scanned for a microchip.
- Make flyers in eye-catching colors with a photo and description of the found pet. Post these flyers in your neighborhood, the shelter, vet clinics, grocery and feed stores.
- Post on various Facebook groups. There are many Facebook groups that are dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their owners such as: “Lost and found pets of Moscow, Pullman, and surrounding areas”, “Pullman Pets & Animals”. “Zeus’s friends, lost and found pet network” is another great group that serves the area closer to Lewiston/Clarkston.
- If it appears healthy, put the cat back where it was found. Cats have highly developed senses and a great sense of direction! If you aren't sure they are owned, put a little collar on with a note and your contact info so if the cat finds its people, they can let you know!
