My dog was taken to the shelter...now what?
To reclaim your dog, you must pay a $25 impound fee in addition to $8 for each additional day we care for your dog in the shelter. Owners must show proof of a current, valid pet license from municipalities where it is required. Dogs not claimed within 3 days with no identification and 6 days with identification are evaluated for adoptability and subsequently made available for adoption. If this is the second time your pet has been impounded this year, the impound fee is $50. If this is the third (or more) time, the impound fee will be $75. The boarding fees are the same no matter how many times your dog has been impounded. Owners must show proof of a current, valid pet license from municipalities where it is required.
For Pullman Residents, owners must first obtain a "Release of Impound Form" from the Pullman Police Department. Please bring proof of Rabies to verify a dog license or receive an annual license ($60) or a lifetime license ($30 with proof of spay/neuter). Dogs that are not Rabies vaccinated will require purchase of a temporary license. All transactions at PPD are cash only.

If your dog was impounded by the police and is being kept at the shelter for a bite quarantine, it will be held for 10 days. Dogs are only quarantined when they have bitten a person and you intend to keep or rehome the dog after the bite has occurred. Dogs who are going to be euthanized need not undergo a quarantine if you follow the appropriate guidelines for rabies testing (ask your vet about this if you are in this situation.) If your dog is quarantined at WCHS, you must pay the $25 impound fee in addition to a $15 boarding fee for every day that your dog is in the care of the shelter. Plan to pick up the dog after the tenth day, no later, no exceptions. Even if you choose to euthanize your dog after the quarantine, you are responsible for paying all impound and boarding fees.
Payment plans are not offered/accepted by WCHS.
