How long do you keep animals at the shelter?
The animals being cared for in the shelter will stay until they are adopted, claimed by their owner, or transferred to a rescue organization better equipped to care for them. A typical stay at the WCHS can range from a few days to several months. Those who come to us as strays are kept 3-6 days (depending on the pets’ identification status) and examined by a vet before being made available for adoption. If an animal is in need of special care, it may be several weeks or months before it is ready for adoption.
