Oversee the daily operations of WCHS Animal Haven - a no-kill shelter. Under the supervision of the Director of Shelter Operations (DSO) and the Board of Directors, this position manages daily tasks and is responsible for the training and enrichment of animals in-shelter. They work in partnership with the Foster Coordinator (FPC) to provide enrichment and training for foster animals. This position helps oversee shelter staff and job assignments to ensure that all daily animal care tasks are completed and customers are given the best possible experience.

Fundraising
- Assisting the DSO and FPC in managing and creating Social Media Campaigns
- Seek out and apply for grant funding in regards to shelter animal behavior and enrichment
- Attend fundraising events as appropriate
Community Outreach
- Actively share our mission and how we operate with the community
- Help create and maintain an active social media presence that highlights adoptable pets
- Partner with local groomers to ensure our animals can receive the grooming they need
- Establish/foster a relationship with local trainers to help shelter animals
- Attend community events when appropriate to foster the shelter relationship with the community
- Promote the enrichment program and train all walking/enrichment volunteers
- Ensure all advertisement for the walking/enrichment program is accurate and accessible (social media, pamphlets, etc.)
Animal Care
- Respond to emergency calls from local Police for after-hours impounds/animal care (a WCHS cell phone is provided for this position)
- Evaluate behavioral needs and personalities of shelter animals and provide them with what they need (within reason) to showcase their unique personalities
- Report and create training plans for behavioral issues seen in shelter animals
- Perform Intake Evaluations on new canine residents to assess their previous training, trainability, and any behavioral quirks
- Enforce the use of the Enrichment Calendar. Ensure that all animals are mentally and physically stimulated during their shelter stay.
- Train staff on how to interact with and train dogs
- Keep the Canine Informational Boards up to date (ie. Food/medications, Likes/Restrictions, Dog walking/enrichment)
- Assist the DSO and FPC in overseeing routine and specialized medical care for shelter animals
- Help facilitate Vet Day with WSU Shelter Medicine and facilitate Vet Day once monthly
- Help create the Vet List for Shelter Medicine along with the DSO and FPC
- Evaluate and make decisions about new animal intakes with the DSO and FPC in regards to emergencies, hoarding situations, the shelter waitlist, and police impounds
- Work with the FPC to send animals to foster or bring animals back from foster when applicable
- Oversee daily animal care and ensure that the 5 freedoms are met for all shelter animals
- Recommend and arrange transfers when needed
- Arrange and monitor routine operations (ie. spay/neuters, dentals.) and grooming needs
- Run medical testing done by shelter staff, oversee/train new staff how to complete testing (ie. SNAP tests, parvo/panleuk tests, fecal sample tests, etc.)
- Assist with animal care tasks in-shelter as needed
Administration:
- Ensure all websites are up to date with engaging and accurate descriptions of shelter animals, as well as attention-grabbing photos
- Send Pets for Adoption Classified Ads to newspapers weekly
- Conflict resolution in regards to staffing, customer service, and animal care
- Monitoring customer satisfaction and making changes as needed
- Implementation of operational and administrative decisions made by the Board of Directors and DSO
- Maintain records of daily activities in regards to animal enrichment and training, provide reports as requested by the DSO
- Performs/Oversees those making minor repairs to the facility
- Assist all staff in completed inventory, order items as needed when DSO is not available
- Input and evaluate medical records in PetPoint
- Evaluate effectiveness of policy and procedures - Suggest/make changes when needed
- Assist the DSO and FPC in ensuring the shelter stays within its capacity of care limits
Staffing:
- Create work assignments, evaluate performance, and administer disciplinary action when appropriate to Animal Care Attendants
- Ensure staff are completing their Daily Rounds and Weekly Inventory assignments
- Complete inventory sheets that are not completed by ACA/FPC
- Contribute to planning staff meetings and assist the DSO in writing staff memos
- Oversee training of staff and adhere to the Staff Training Manual
