In addition to volunteer opportunities at the shelter, we also have the need for volunteers to help us plan and execute our fundraising events.  Events such as Fur Ball, Mutt Strutt, and Cruzin' for Critters are important fundraisers for our organization.  We also have a variety of smaller fundraising events that we participate in throughout the year. You are guaranteed to have a great time and help support our furry friends!

If you are interested in volunteering on any of our event committees or helping with community events please fill out the application form below.  You will be added to our list and notified of volunteer opportunities as they arise.  If you have any questions about a specific event please contact the shelter staff at 509-332-3422 or email to inquire.  They can put you in touch with the committee chairs and get you started!

The Fur Ball is our main fundraising event held annually that includes a happy hour, catered dinner, silent and live auctions and a program centered around that years theme. We have multiple subcommittees that are always looking for volunteers.

Would you like to help us organize our Mutt Strutt event? You can serve on our Mutt Strutt committee or volunteer at the event. Volunteers are needed to assist with vendor set up, check-in and registration, coordinating dog-owner activities, monitor the silent auction, and tear down.

Cruzin' for Critters is our annual motorcycle poker run. We need volunteers to help collect donations, and staffing at the various stops the day of the event.

If you would like to help provide input on the operation of the Pooch Park, the Pooch Park committee would love to have you. If you are interested email or contact the shelter directly and they will put you in touch with the committee chair.

We need volunteers to help us work the Lentil Festival Beer Garden. There are typically two shifts available: 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm and 7:45 pm - 11:30pm. The following positions are available. All volunteers for this event must be at least 21 yrs of age. To sign up please contact us at

WCHS staffs two lots for WSU Football parking on game days. If you are available to work a shift at WSU home games please get in touch!
The volunteer serves as a traffic director during home games. We have 2 lots, Lincoln Dr/Grimes Way and south entrance Grimes Way.
The shifts are 6am-9am; 9-12; 12-4; and 4-7:45pm. One person per shift per lot with a total of 8 people per game needed.

WCHS is involved in a number of smaller events that help raise awareness in our community. Help with publicity, set up, and staffing tables is needed at some of our events. To see what events are coming up, check out our event calendar or contact the shelter.

Are you artistic or do you work in graphic design? We need your skills! We have three main fundraising events each year and need poster designs and graphics for publicity. If you would like to work with us and donate your skills and time to help us create beautiful publicity material for our events we would LOVE to talk to you!

Do you like to host events and fundraise? If you have a great fundraising idea and would like to support WCHS, we are always grateful for the support. We would love to hear about it and see how we can help. You can sell a service or item, or organize an event such as a walk or fun run. Money helps us take care of the medical needs and operational costs for the shelter. It might not be the most "fun" but it is CRUCIAL!

We are frequently in need of supplies for ongoing operations at the shelter. If you would like to organize a supply drive to collect donations or supplies for the shelter we can supply you with a list of items that would be most beneficial at the time. We also have a list of In-Kind donations that are frequently needed and our Amazon wish list under the donation section of our website.

We are always looking for ways to involve the community so if you have any ideas for events or projects we would love to hear from you!
